Mr. He has over 40 years experience in geography, spatial science, and GIS research in China and overseas. During his early years of research in the 1970' s, Mr. He spent over 10 years in mapping research of natural resources.

From 1973 to early 80' s, Mr. He has been conducting research in CAC (Computer Aided Cartography). During the last 20 years, Mr. He has focused in the field of GIS research and development. He also participated in the research of Geography Information Sharing and Standardization. Since 1994, Mr. He has been conducting research in standardization of international geographic information.

Mr. He participated in developing China's first GIS and managed China's first GIS research Laboratory; Mr. He participated in developing China's GIS Standardization research and managed China's Geography Standardization research for many years; Mr. He also took part in establishing, organizing and managing the first National Key Lab of GIS. As director, and Executive Vice-Director of the Scholarly Committee; he involved in developing the National GIS Science and Technology Plan;

Mr. He has participated in numerous Research and Development projects, including:
Research in Information Sharing of China's Sustainable Development and solved the problem of building the sharing environment;

China 's Serious Natural Disasters Monitoring and Estimating System and solved the problem of System Integration and National Natural Disasters' Monitoring;

Establishment and Application of the Information System of Loess Plateau and solved the problem of Software System Development;

Establishment of Soil Erosion Model and the Establishment & Application of Typical GIS; Regional Information System Model of Er'tan Large-size Hydroelectric Power Project and carried out the Regional Analysis System Model of Environmental Changes Caused by Building Large-size Reservoir, which is the first model of regional GIS in China;

Teng Chong Remote Sensing Geography Information and done a creative research on building China 's GIS Data base by various data resources;

Research on Urban Geographic Information Standardization and solved the problem of Urban GIS Standardization of nation, province and local level;

Mr. He has published a large number of research papers and presented his research at numerous conferences both in China and abroad.
